What "near me" means for a dumpster

Roll-off trucks carry one container at a time, so every job is a round trip to drop it, a round trip to collect it, and a run to the landfill in between. That makes distance the single biggest variable a company controls, and it's why most work a radius of about 20 to 30 miles from the yard.

It also means the nearest company isn't automatically the cheapest. A hauler twenty miles out whose disposal site is five minutes from your street can beat one down the road who has to drive across the county to dump. Worth calling two.

How much choice you actually have

"Near me" is only a useful search if somebody is near you. We built every town page on a 25-mile radius from each company's own yard, so we can say exactly how thin or thick a market is rather than implying every town is equally served. The one exception is an owner who claimed their listing and named the towns they run: those get added at their true distance, because the operator knows their own range better than a circle does.

5 to 9 366 19% of towns
3 or 4 219 11% of towns
1 or 2 242 12% of towns

The median town on this site has 13 independent companies within 25 miles.

Where a town shows two or three companies, treat all of them as worth calling rather than picking the top one. In a thin market the gap between quotes is usually wider, because there is nobody nearby keeping anyone honest on price.

Price is regional, and the range is wide

Disposal cost is the biggest thing separating one market from another, and it is set by the landfill rather than by the hauler. A 20-yard medians $664 in New Hampshire and $300 in Nebraska, a difference of 121% for the same container. Knowing your own state's figure before you call is the difference between recognizing a fair quote and accepting the first one.

Confirming a company actually covers you

Distances on this site are measured from each company's listed address to the center of the town, which is not the same as a service boundary. A yard eighteen miles out may cover you and a yard eight miles out may not, usually because of which side of a county line you are on or which tip they are permitted to use. Ask on the call, before anything else:

  1. Do you deliver to my street, and is there a fee for the distance?
  2. What is included: the container, the delivery, the collection, and how many days?
  3. What weight is included, and what is the rate per ton over it?
  4. What happens if I keep it longer than the period?

Those four make two quotes comparable. Without them a lower headline price routinely finishes higher.

One more worth asking, because it is often the same call: 1,414 of the 3,464 companies whose websites we read sell junk removal as well, so the yard dropping your container may also be able to load it. Which one you want.

Questions

How do I find a dumpster rental near me?
Start with the town you're in. Most roll-off companies work a radius of roughly 20 to 30 miles from their yard, so the nearest yard is usually the cheapest quote, a company further away spends more of the day driving and prices accordingly.
How much does a dumpster cost near me?
The national median for a 20-yard is $419, with most companies between $350 and $490. Your local figure can sit well outside that. Disposal costs vary more by region than anything else in the price. Check your state on the Price Index.
Who is the cheapest dumpster rental near me?
Usually whoever is closest to both your address and their disposal site, which is often not the biggest name in town. Compare on the all-in figure rather than the headline price: base price, included tonnage, overage per ton, rental period, and the fee for extra days.
Do you list every dumpster company near me?
We list independently owned companies with at least 12 Google reviews. National carriers, brokers and junk-removal crews are excluded on purpose. This is a list of local operators who leave a container with you.
