A week is the default across the industry and nothing else comes close. The three-day and one-day periods below it are mostly heavy-material rentals, where the hauler wants the container back on the road rather than sitting full of concrete. The 14 and 30-day periods are usually construction accounts rather than a homeowner rate.
What does an extra day cost?
The median published extra-day fee is $16, with most companies between $10 and $25. Against a $419 base rate for a 20-yard, a few extra days is a small number, which is the point: booking the standard period and calling for early collection costs less than booking long, and far less than needing a second delivery.
Most companies will collect early at no charge. Very few advertise it.
Daily, weekly or monthly?
Companies quote the period three ways, and it changes what you are comparing. 1,618 quote in days, 94 quote in weekly, 53 quote in weeks and 38 quote in monthly. A monthly rate is rarely twelve times better than a weekly one, so on a job running more than two weeks, ask for the monthly figure directly rather than paying day rates on top of a week.
Cost per day, by size
Dividing the median price by the 7-day standard period gives a like-for-like daily figure. It is arithmetic on published rates rather than a rate anyone advertises, but it is the only way to compare a size against a size.

Read it as a comparison, not as a rate you can book. Nobody rents a 30-yard for a day at a seventh of the weekly price, because the cost of the job is the truck and the landfill rather than the time the container spends on your driveway.
