Planning Waste Removal for a Summer Renovation
On a multi-week job the container schedule matters as much as the container size. Swaps are usually cheaper than repeat rentals.
One big container or several swaps?
For a renovation running more than a couple of weeks, ask about a swap rate rather than booking separate rentals. A scheduled swap — full container out, empty one in, same trip — is normally cheaper than two one-off rentals and keeps the site clear.
Heat and asphalt don't mix
Asphalt softens above about 80°F. A loaded container sitting on a hot driveway for a fortnight will leave marks. Put plywood under the wheels and rails, or place it on the street if your town allows it.
Sequence the heavy material
If the job includes tile, plaster or concrete, that material should go in its own container or at least go in first and spread out. Mixing a tonne of tile into a load of cabinetry is how a straightforward rental turns into an overage bill.
Keep the approach clear all summer
Trade vehicles, delivered materials and skips all compete for the same driveway. Agree a drop zone with the contractor on day one — a driver who can't place or collect still charges for the trip.
